Are you ready to take off? 2D Dogfight is now released!

Hello everyone,

I am excited to announce that my game, 2D Dogfight, is now released! This is a simple and fun 2D air combat game with some aerodynamic simulation. The idea of this 2D flight simulation game comes from my love of flying games and my desire to create unique games. Most of the flight simulation games I have played are three-dimensional, and many of them depict the flight characteristics of aircraft in great detail. However, two-dimensional aerial combat games seem to completely avoid simulation. Is there an unimagined path? So I want to create a 2D game that includes elements of flight simulation.

About the game mechanics

Although 2D Dogfight includes elements of flight simulation, it does not mean that the game takes a purely hardcore simulator route. As a simple game, gameplay is still the most important consideration. The aerodynamic simulation in the game mainly includes the basic gravity and lift characteristics of the aircraft. When the player controls the aircraft to climb and maneuver, the speed will decrease, and when diving, the speed will increase. A series of energy conversions during flight give players more diverse tactical choices in air combat, just like many three-dimensional flight simulation games. However, since the aerial combat in my game takes place in a 2D world, the choices for maneuvering are simpler. Various aircraft in the game have their own unique flying performance. Their performance data is based on real historical data, but adjustments will be made for gameplay needs (some modern aircraft with performance data still classified as secret have no real data to refer, their data is purely designed for gameplay).

In addition to controlling the aircraft, players also need to learn and understand various weapon systems of different aircraft, including their airborne radar performance, the use of various air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons. Therefore, I strongly recommend that players check the tutorial and relevant databases in the game instruction on the main menu before starting the game, so that you can master the operation skills of the game faster. Even if some players are impatient to start the game immediately, I hope you can refer to the tutorials in the game instruction specifically when encountering problems in the game to avoid unnecessary detours.

About the campaign mode

There are a total of 32 single-player missions in the game, with 8 single-player missions each for the United States, China, Russia, and Europe. These missions have different levels of difficulty. I suggest that players start with the campaigns of the United States and China because they are slightly easier than the campaigns of Russia and Europe. Players should pay attention to the mission objectives before starting a single-player mission, which are not limited to aerial combat but also require the player to have the ability to control the aircraft to attack enemy ground targets.

Some common mission objectives include destroying enemy aerial vehicles, destroying enemy ground vehicles, protecting our ground or air units (if they are destroyed, the mission is considered a failure), controlling a designated airport (only ground forces can control airports. Considering the slow marching speed of ground forces, players can also complete the mission by destroying all possible targets that may threaten our ground forces, without waiting for the ground forces to move slowly to the airport). There are many ways to pass the game, and I hope players can use their own thinking to pass the game.

About the future of the game

The game is almost complete, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. First of all, I will try my best to implement the save function, so that players can save a game at key points during single player missions. This way, if a mistake is made during gameplay, they do not have to start the game over from the beginning. I am also considering implementing a mission editor, so that players can create their own combat missions in the editor and share them with other players using the relevant features of the steam workshop. In addition, my future goals include adding more aircrafts and multiplayer mode to the game. And it is also possible to develop a 3D version of this game.

If any players encounter any bugs or other issues during the game, please feel free to give me feedbacks. I will do my best to fix and improve them. Thank you for your support, and I hope you enjoy my game!
