《Back:Fade》Post-Release First Announcement
Hi everyone,
Today marks Day 4 since Back: Fade (let's call it Back 2) launched! Thank you all - old friends and new - for joining this second chapter of the Back series. I've been reading every suggestion in your emails and replying personally.
As we're now discussing Back 3's script, I want to address two major feedback points and share our improvement plans:
1. "Not Scary Enough & Slow Pacing"
Many noticed we removed jump scares (those sudden "BOO!" moments). This was because Back 1 players called them "cheap thrills". For Back 2, I specifically asked our writers to avoid them, hoping to create deeper "slow-burn horror" through storytelling.
But I realize now:
• My team's still learning how to make "mind-chilling terror" without jump scares
• If forced to choose between "basic scares" vs "not scary", most prefer some scares
So for Back 3:
✓ We'll add meaningful jump scares that fit the story
✓ Keep working to improve our slow-burn horror skills (maybe 10% better each game!)
2. "Limited Choices & Interactions"
In Back 2, we tried something new:
• Your choice order (A first vs B first) changed scenes subtly
• 99% players didn't notice this hidden feature 😅
We wanted to make investigations matter more than in Back 1, but our experimental system didn't click. So for Back 3:
❌ We'll remove the confusing parts
✅ Add clearer, more impactful choices
💡 Already have a cool new idea in mind!
Other Improvements Coming:
• Better acting (we're coaching our cast)
• Longer endings
• More logical story flow
• Everything will keep getting better game by game
As a 3-person team making our 4th FMV game, I can't promise Hollywood-level production yet. But we can promise:
• Every game will try fresh ideas
• We'll keep learning from you
• Your support fuels our indie journey
Thank you for gaming with us!
Warm regards,
MysteryCrown
