Blocks v2.0

Blocks v2 is now live with a focus on making the end to end creation workflow easier:

- You asked us for more export formats, we’re happy to deliver! Blocks will now export an .fbx file and a triangulated .obj file along with our existing obj file. Find options to download these formats in the Blocks gallery for your models, as well as others’ remixable models.

- We’ve fixed a number of small issues around how our exported files can be interpreted by other tools. Our 3D exports should now work seamlessly in other tools, but let us know in the comments if any newly-saved models present issues in other programs.

- Reference images are now easier to grab, show a highlight when hovered, can be snapped to the grid, and have a satisfying smash when thrown away.

- We’ve made a number of performance improvements: Blocks should run much more smoothly when viewing and manipulating complex scenes. Further, if you make really complex changes (copying a lot of complex meshes, for example), you’ll see your changes animate in bit-by-bit.

- Downloaded Blocks models are now cached, so they will load immediately next time, and Blocks will use much less Internet bandwidth after the first load.

- Blocks now remembers which hand is your dominant hand. In addition to bumping the bottoms of controllers together to change handedness, you can now also set your handedness in the Options menu (after opening the menu using the red button, click on your profile icon to find your Options).

- Tooltips now show up more usefully to help you discover features like snapping and selecting multiple objects at once. If you’re already a pro, you can now disable tooltips entirely in the Options menu.

- The paintbrush tool will now auto-open if you select a color with a non-painting tool selected.

- And we’ve made browsing featured models better when not signed in.
