Trading Improvements and Cow Update and Patch Notes #57

Hello everyone!
Time for a new update.

Let's go straight to the content:

Trading Improvements:

We have reworked the price calculations for traders and as a result character stats should make a greater difference when trading.
Player trust and social skills should have an effect on trader trust gain, while physical things like size or facial symmetry will have a flat effect on prices. In general, the more socially adept and traditionally good looking you are, the better trader prices will be. Trust is still one of the biggest factors though, so with time, all characters should be able to achieve more reasonable prices one the trader gets to know them.

In any case, we will be tweaking prices for a while so please let us know if something feels too expensive or cheap. Prices will be changing quite a bit I'm sure.

Commissions:

The trader can now have requests of his own. The completion of these will unlock new traders with their own products.
We will be adding additional commissions in the future, and use them to unlock more features or to accelerate trust gain.
Currently there are two new traders:

Animal Trader:

He will start coming once you complete a partridge egg commission. He comes with cows, chicken, pigs, cheese and feed.
This trader is currently the only way to find cows and chicken in the game (aside from a couple new perks), and is an alternate way of getting pigs without having to catch them in the wild.

Metal Trader:

He will start coming once you complete a copper commission. He comes with copper, tin and bronze tools.
This trader provides an additional way to get metal (especially tin) as well as a new tool, a pickaxe, which can be used to dig mines faster and extract ore from veins more effectively.

New Animals:

Chicken and cows can now be acquired from the new Animal Trader or through a couple new starting perks that have been introduced (Starting Cattle and Starting Poultry).

On a related note, all domesticated animals (including boars) can now also be attacked by predators and some of them will fight back (boars and bulls).

Chicken:

Partridges have been nerfed and made more realistic as a result they now only lay eggs during spring, although their eggs are now lighter and more expensive.
Chicken, on the other hand, give more meat and lay eggs every season other than winter. Chicken eggs are bigger but cheaper.

Cows:

These are the stars of the update. They are a new source of very large leather, give the most meat of all animals in the game, and when lactating produce milk.

Cows can feed themselves by foraging but that won't usually make them happy. For that they should ideally forage from meadowgrass or clover fields or patches, be hand fed good food or given good dry fodder to eat. Dry fodder can be created with a new blueprint and will have a different level of nutrition based on the items that were used to create it.

Milk is a super useful liquid that can be drank or turned into other products.
Milk can be skimmed to extract its cream, and this cream can then be turned into butter. Butter is similar to fat and can be used to season and enrich other food items.

Milk can also be left to spoil into curdled milk (a process that goes much faster if you use a calf stomach). From it you can extract curds which can be pressed into soft cheese. Soft cheese can then be pressed into firm or even hard cheese, which are longer lasting. Hard cheese can also be left to mature into aged cheese.
You can also make low fat versions if you skim the milk first!

We will be adding more uses for cheese with the cooking update in the near future. ;)

And here are the patch notes:
