Hey everybody and welcome to the first of our developer updates! From now until launch we will be sharing more frequent updates with you on the progress of
City of Gangsters. In these posts we’ll be getting into some of the game’s core mechanics as well as sharing recently added content which we hope you’ll enjoy.
The foundations of an empire.Today we’re going to talk a little bit about the foundations of your empire, and the kinds of basic alcohol that you’re going to be producing in the early parts of the game.
Homemade Booze is the lowest hanging fruit and is cheap and easy to manufacture. These are beverages that would have been commonly seen during Prohibition. In
City of Gangsters each of our city maps will have its own unique variants of alcohol resources. For now let’s focus on Chicago where
Homemade Booze comes in four flavors: Homemade beer, Hard Cider, Brick Wine, and Moonshine.
Each of these can be produced at a business you control by installing the relevant back-room operation. You’ll notice that all four types of alcohol consist of a base ingredient (neutral alcohol, malt syrup, grape concentrate, apple juice) and a container (stoneware crocks).
Now while crocks are abundant throughout the city, other ingredients can be a little harder to come by. Over time you’ll acquire the skills and knowhow to build your own presses, processers, and distilleries to refine these ingredients. But should you ever find yourself with a short-term supply issue you can bet that someone you know will be happy to help out (with a few greenbacks on the side to sweeten the deal of course!).
Aside from the different ingredients required to make them, the market value of each type of
Homemade Booze varies as well:
Homemade beer - $8 per crock
Hard cider - $12 per crock
Brick wine - $15 per crock
Moonshine - $20 per crock
You’ll see that Moonshine is considerably more lucrative than homemade beer, but like many aspects of
City of Gangsters, the locations and level of demand from businesses for a particular resource is entirely procedurally generated, so each new game will present its own challenges and opportunities.
Depending on the situation then, it might not necessarily be the best strategy to pursue the production of a higher value resource immediately. Instead, your best bet will be to look at the situation, work your connections, and adapt as events unfold….
Updates: City Districts and new 3D models. We’ve recently added city districts to our city maps. Certain buildings and landmarks will be attached to certain districts to give you a better sense of the geography of the city that you are playing in.
Our 3D artist has also been hard at work on additional models to inject more character into the game world. We’re personally huge fans of the civic buildings (there are a few of this style still standing in Chicago if you know where to look!). Certain buildings will grant outfits that capture them special privileges, the details of which we will share with you later down the line…
That’s all for now, but we’ll be back with another update in a few weeks. In the meantime come hang out with us on
Discord and
Twitter.
