Hi all, we’ve got some exciting news - we just released
City of Gangsters update 1.1! This is the first of a number of major content updates that we have planned. The major focus for update 1.1 is the introduction of customizable city maps.
Custom map editor When you start a new game, in addition to the standard city maps you now have the option to select ‘custom map’ from the drop down.
Selecting this option takes you through to the custom map editor where you have access to a host of new options.
General optionsFirst, give your city its official name and state, and pick which city map (Chicago, Pittsburgh, Detroit, or Cincinnati) to use as a template in determining resources, operation types, and missions.
Rivals and challengesNext, change the difficulty of your map by adjusting the number of rival outfits, troublemakers, and police precincts. As a rule of thumb, the more you have of each NPC type on the map, the more challenging it will be!
Topography optionsWant more hills? A coastline? Extra rivers? You can modify the map to include different configurations of rivers, hills, and coastlines. Adding topographic complexity creates more chokepoints and new challenges when expanding your relationship network and territory.
Layout optionsRoad networks can be customized in several ways, from a strong grid reminiscent of cities like Chicago, through several other types all the way to very organic layout full of unexpected clusters, more reminiscent of cities like Boston. Additionally, you can change the proportions of industrial and commercial centers, which will change how many high level businesses of both types will be available across the city.
Steam Workshop and moddingIn the coming weeks we’ll also be adding initial Steam Workshop support to share your custom maps with other players. We’ve had lots of requests for modding support, and map sharing is our first step in this direction. Expect more information and instructions soon.
We hope that you’ll enjoy experimenting with these new tools and sharing your novel Prohibition cities - we can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with!
What’s next? More criminal activities, you say? We’ve been thinking about how to add another layer of risk - and reward - to our Prohibition cities. We can’t reveal the exact details right now, but we’ll be sharing more information on here as soon as it’s ready.
