UPDATE 0.96 - You Can Now Save & Load Your Games!!
Massive Update for CyberBrick!!
…You not longer have to devote potentially "hours" of your time to completing a game in a single sitting!
With this update, you now have the ability to SAVE YOUR PROGRESS at any point in the game!
* To save your game progress, simply hit the ESC key on your keyboard and hit the "S" button to save your progress. The game will save your game and return you to the introduction screen where you are free to exit the game and pick up your saved game at a more convenient time.
Some notes about saving your game:
- The game will save your score, your current level, your current money balance, your current number of balls remaining, and your current paddle health. As of right now, the game will NOT save any progress you have on the level as far as bricks destroyed in that level when you save. I might update this in the future to also save bricks destroyed but for right now, this serves as a sort of "cost" to save your progress.
- SAVING YOUR GAME AT THE BEGINNING OF A NEW LEVEL IS ADVISED SO THAT YOU DON'T LOSE ANY PROGRESS WHENEVER YOU WANT TO SAVE A GAME AND PICK IT UP LATER.
- Once a game is saved, you can always load that saved game from the introduction screen by pressing the 'L' key on your keyboard. (A note will be displayed at the bottom of the introduction screen if you have a saved game ready to load)
- Once you load a saved game, that saved file is deleted. This is to prevent a player from saving a game say at level 25 with a million points, and then being able to repeatedly load that same progress back over and over again. So make sure you are "ready" to play whenever you load a saved game!
- You can only ever have ONE save file per each Steam account. What this means is that if you have a game saved, and you launch a brand new game and then save that game, your new save file will over-write your previous save file. Be careful with this because let's imagine you achieve level 30 and have 300,000 points and save your game at that point. If you come back later and only get to level 2 with 10,000 points and then save that game, your previous save file with 300k points at level 30 will be over-written with your new level 2 & 10k point save. You'd be much better off loading your 300k & level 30 save file and then playing a little and re-saving that game if you only have a little time to play.
- The save files are located on your own personal device, but they are encrypted with 128 bit data structuring to prevent players from simply changing values on their save files to "cheat" high scores and other values. While you won't be able to read or alter these text files to "cheat", you may want to back up a game save file if you are changing devices or reinstalling Windows on your device before playing CyberBrick again.
That's pretty much it for this update. Oh, a brand new level has also been added as the starting level of every new game, but that's it for this update as I get closer to bringing "CyberBrick" to it's version 1.0 release.
Be sure and comment below and let me know how you like this update and of course if you experience any bugs or problems with saving and loading your games!
