International Tabletop Day Sale & Update v0.7.5

International Tabletop Day Sale -65%

v0.7.5 Changes

Updated UI

The UI has been updated as I come closer to a final design I am happy with. You’ll notice that the overall layout hasn’t changed much at all but instead the look of the UI changed. You’ll continue to see small tweaks like this in the future up until it is finally done.

One of the main reasons behind this UI change was to try and declutter the screen. As new features creep their way into the engine I wanted to try and find ways to keep the screen looking clean. Having dozens of buttons and options on the screen all at once can be a bit of information overload. You will see now that the main differences are.

1. A sidebar for “building” options that you can hide when not needed.
2. A top bar with buttons that don’t draw much attention and are rarely used.
3. A bottom bar of options for when you are playing a session.

I plan to keep refining this UI to make it as intuitive and user friendly as possible so please let me know if you like these changes.

Map Pin Notes

A couple changes to the map pins. First I made it so all map pins have titles so you can give them each a unique name. This would be handy if you have a big overworld with several pins, by using the world manager you can quickly track down the one you need.

Next I added a second window which allows you to write down some brief notes in that pin. You can use this to store ideas or information that would be handy to have as a reminder.

v0.7.5 New Additions

Map Notes

The first new addition we have is the Map Notes feature. Similar to the way pins work you will be able to open a book with notes that are custom/unique to the map you are currently on.
On the left side of the book is the spine with all the tabs/pages you have created so far. You can edit the title of the tab here by clicking on it and typing in whatever you want. Pushing the plus button below adds a fresh tab for you to begin editing.

The right side of the book is the contents of the page. Click the editing pencil above to switch into edit mode. From here you can type as much as you want that you think would be important to remember for this map. The idea behind this is since these notes save to the map you could create a one shot or campaign adventure and share it with friends or the community. They could then open the map and have all the notes that you intended for them to see all conveniently saved in one place.

Lastly, this notebook uses a tag system so you can take plain looking notes and give them some more structure. By giving some text a specific tag you can change the way it looks in the example given below.

There are a total of 16 unique tags to begin playing with. Those include <T> <ST> <H1> <H2> <H3> <B> <I> <BI> <S> <Red> <Green> <Blue> <Yellow> <Purple> <Cyan> <Gray>. No tags will leave the text as default.

Spell Book & Attacks Book

Our next new addition is the Spell Book along with the Attacks Book. Similar to how the map notes work you can save some information in these books. Intended for spells and attacks these books are layed out similar in look to the notebook from before but are structured more to favor the 5e spell layout in the PHB. The difference with these books is that they don’t save only to the map and are saved to the engine overall. You will have access to whatever you write down in these pages anywhere you go.

The reason for having two different books is that one was intended for you to save spells to the “Spell Book” and keep the original version of it while the “Attacks Book” will be able to keep copied versions or modified versions on that spell. You don’t even have to save spells here; you could also save melee attacks such as a Halberd. The future plan for these books is to also allow for you to save dice rolls here. That way when you are looking up a spell or an attack you can easily press a button that has your saved dice roll in it.

Please keep in mind that these new note features are experimental still and are likely to change. As people use them and find ways to improve them I will go back and rework the system to improve its usability. After we find a good system to finalize I will then take all of that and rework it into a better file saving system. Right now all the spells/attacks save are unique to the GME user in a file that is not editable outside of GME. I would like to see this system turned into one where you can open the save file outside of GME and add/remove spells as you please. Also, it would be great to see people sharing their spell books with others so everyone can create and grow a big library together.

Initiative Tracker

This next feature is only for GMs but I hope to update it later so it can be usable by players too. To use this feature you will first need to have minis on the map and give them each a name. After that you can open the initiative window and click the gear icon to start adding turn orders. Give each turn a mini and it will save them to that slot. After your turn order is finished you can then close the gear and begin your initiative. Press the left/right arrows to either go to the next turn or go back a turn. The two windows below the arrows represent which mini/characters turn it currently is as well as who is coming up next. Once you have clicked the right arrow enough times to go through everyone's turn the round number will increase. You can do this an infinite number of times.

All of this info saves to the map whenever you save the map overall. That way you can close down the session and come back to the battle later!

Rulers

The last new feature is a much needed set of rulers. By clicking the ruler you can slide out a set of different ruler types to choose from (Line, Sphere and Circle). After choosing the ruler type you want, all you need to do is click anywhere on the map to spawn it in.

Once a ruler is in the world you can grab one of its end nodes to move it around and the line in the center will follow and read out the distance. At any time you can right click one of these nodes to bring up a window to easily delete the ruler once you are done with it.
