African Kingdom Expansion Updates

Hey everyone, a quick update to showcase how the African Kingdom expansion is coming along. I've been working a heap on buildings, resources and mechanics for the game.

New Dwellings

Both Tribesman and Tribal Nobles play a key role in the African campaigns. These citizens will work across a range of tribal buildings to produce your new resources. Like in the Roman campaign, you'll upgrade these with specific resources and access to civic services.

New Industries and Resources

A range of new resources and accompanying buildings have been created. There will be about a half dozen resources, some useable in their raw form while others needing to be processed further. Here's a few buildings and how they will work.

Parchment Makers

The Parchment Maker will process Refined Papyrus into Parchment. This resource will be required by Tribal Nobles for their development.

Huntsman's lodge

The Huntsman's Lodge produces two resources, Game Meat and Hides. Game Meat will be sought after by your Tribal Nobles and the hides will be used by both groups, with the Tribesman requiring the hides and the nobles needing them refined into Tanned Hides.

Barley Farm

A new foodstuff required by the African populous. This barley is traded directly to dwellings to keep them satisfied and traded back to Rome as tribute.

Civic Buildings

Much like the Roman citizens, your African citizens will need access to specific Civic Buildings to upgrade.

Where the Romans needed several types of resources (health, education, security etc) for their various types of citizens, there are only two civic services you'll need to provide. These are African Culture and African Religion.

These buildings represent the locals connection to the spirits, ancestors and tribal traditions; and while they don't need a variety of civic buildings, they require more of them to upgrade. For example roman citizens may need 20 Religion to upgrade, where tribesman require 60. You'll have to build multiple buildings in proximity to stack their effect together.

Here you can see the Ancestral Hunters building. It provides all buildings within 4 tiles with African Culture.

Wrapping it up

I'm making some great progress and really like the way the new campaigns are shaping up. I'm hoping this new hybrid playstyle where you need to balance 2 distinct groups will put you to the test and prove a challenge.

I'll keep you all updated as I make further progress and have something fun to share.

Cheers
