Godking Update - AI Aggression & Release Info

This update focuses on huge improvements to AI players, making them a lot more challenging to play against. They will now aggressively invade enemy territory and search for HQs to conquer with big armies.

We are excited to hear what you think about our new AI!

Godking has been in early access for almost five months. The game has come a long way and can hardly be recognized since EA started back in April. Our primary stretch goal during early access was to get to a stage where we could add multiplayer features to the game. We have unfortunately been unable to reach this milestone, and Godking will be released as a singleplayer game September 16th.

To reflect this change and as of today, the price of the game has been reduced. The new price might give more players a chance to check out Godking.

If all goes to plan our next patch will be our release build. It will feature the introduction of AI difficulty levels and a host of final polishing touches and upgrades across the game.

As we are getting out of early access we want to thank our amazing community for all your help and support along the way. It has been an absolute blast and we have made a ton of new friends.

We are extremely grateful!

General
  • Added almost completely rewritten AI to the game. This update makes them competent opponents that will scout and invade enemy territory and aggressively go after enemy HQs they find. This is a massive power boost for the AI and makes the game more fun for veteran players.
  • Added improved strategic layer for AI players, making them more effective when using summoning rituals and recruiting units for their armies. AI players will now also use multiple smaller scouting armies to keep their borders safe and to harass enemies.
  • Added impact special effects for spells and attacks, as well as many new combat animations for humanoid units in the game. This makes combat even cooler to watch.
  • Added faction shields with colors and faction symbols for Blackbog Goblins and Mercia.
  • Added option to turn off walk animations for commanders and armies on the world map. This feature has been requested by many in our community, so we are happy to finally get it added to the game.
  • Added new sound and special effects when summoning units using ritual spells or when combat summoning for all factions.
  • Added refresh when moving units between garrison and armies on holding UI.
  • Added optimized shadows for parts of the game, making it run slightly smoother on older hardware.

Fixes
  • Fixed an issue with catapults and some siege weapons causing a NullRef error message.
  • Fixed a key not found exception.
  • Fixed an issue where ritual spells set to auto-cast were not being saved properly.
  • Fixed an issue where AI players could end up having the same faction color as other AI players.
  • Fixed an issue with the combat playback speed drop down menu UI being hard to use.
  • Fixed many smaller animation issues on numerous units.
