Godking Update - Mountain Giants
Our ambition with Godking is to make it the best 4X fantasy strategy game it can possibly be. We plan to get there by constantly expanding and building it, not slowing down.
Feedback and reviews have been extremely positive so far, and for that we are humbled and grateful. We read all feedback more than once and we turn your comments into actionable tasks when we can.
We have gotten enough wishlist additions to invade a small country, but could use more help getting the word around. If you like the game, please tell someone - If you don’t like it, please tell us :)
Have fun crushing enemy armies and look out for mountain giants!General- New Manage Armies UI - The new Manage Armies UI visualizes units and artifacts as they appear on the battlefield, and makes it a lot easier to understand how to compose effective armies. We are really happy with it and it opens up interesting options for the future.
- Added embedding of commanders - The ability to embed a commander under another commander has been implemented under the Manage Armies UI. This removes a commander from the world map and turns it into a regular unit. To make it a commander again, drag it out onto command position in the Manage Armies UI.
- Added banners and flags on holding defenses - We have added gorgeous banners, torches and flags on all walled holding defenses. These banners show faction colors and symbols on the battlemap and look super cool!
- Huge combat sound update - added dozens of attacks, movement, spell effects and dying sounds for most units in the game. This enhances combat dramatically, and makes it more exciting to watch on lower playback speeds.
- Scrying spells - We have added several new scrying ritual spells to the game. With these you can target an area and gain map information from safety.
- Scalable UI - Implemented up/down scaling for the UI. You will find the slider to adjust it under options.
- Added finalized battlemap music tracks, including an especially epic song for HQ battles. This track will only play during faction HQ battles.
- Added godray highlights for faction HQs to make them stand out more on the world map.
- Added overhead notifications for ritual spell summons on the world map, to make it easier to see at a glance what was summoned. This is especially useful if you have turned off summon visualizations under options.
- Setting ritual spells to auto-cast is now done by ctrl+right click. The tooltip has been updated to reflect this change.
Content- Godking has been played by many of our favorite youtubers already. In celebration we added 10 new artifacts to the game. Lucid Headband, Explorminatus Spyglass, Nookrium Experience, Sampstra's Finger Band, Sergiu's Hellish Amulet, Winter Mittens of Toryn, Lovers Turn, Anhad's Insight, Shoes of Sabouts, Throneful Knife and Spear of Reinos will start showing up in new games.
- Added Scaleborne holding upgrade Hatchery Expansion which gives +1 recruitment per turn.
- Added Scaleborne Darkscale Vanger - an elite defensive frontline unit. It is unlocked by getting the new upgrade Vanguards Temple at the Scaleborg.
- Earthmother gained new ritual spell Eyes of Nature. A powerful scrying spell with massive range.
- Mercia gained ritual spell Expose Enemies. This is a fire themed scrying spell with a lingering effect. It can also be found on recruitable Invoker commanders at Magic Libraries and Academies.
- Added minor NPC faction Orken. They are a remnant from early Eliador, when roaming ork tribe hordes dominated the world. They can appear as holding defenders and world encounters.
- There is now a higher chance that Farms have no defenders when a new game starts.
- Added new holding Mountain Fortress to the game. These are well defended and have recruitment options. They are uncommon and may not show up in all playthroughs.
- Added Mountain Giant to the game. These big guys can be recruited at the Mountain Fortress holding by factions using food as a resource. They can also appear as super rare random encounters. They are strong and can be used as soloing super combatants, cleaning up wandering monsters on their own.
- Ogres can now be recruited by all factions with access to gold and food on their world holdings.
Balance- High Shaman ritual Summon Wolven Fenrir cost increased from sacred herbs 34 to 38. It still remains one of the strongest summons in the game, but now slightly more expensive to amass them.
- Blackbog Dark Queen ritual spell Slavecraft Mastery herb cost increased from 10 to 18. This is still perhaps the best value frontline summon in the game right now.
Fixes- Fixed an issue where spellcasters could affect allied units with negative effects, including fear and enslave. Friendly units are now immune to most negative conditions causing spells.
- Fixed an issue where moving a consumable artifact from a non-commander to a commander, would not correctly refresh active select UI instantly with the new information.
- Fixed an issue where undefended independent holdings would sometimes show a player faction symbol instead of the independent symbol.
- Fixed a rare reappearing issue where a commander could become invisible on the world map until you cycled to him with the arrow keys or reloaded the game. Hopefully now we got this one for good!
- Fixed an issue causing AI players to sometimes not pull all their armies into the fight even if they could, when their HQ was attacked.
- Fixed an issue causing AI players to leave behind friendly encounter commanders joining them.
- Fixed an issue causing AI players to underspend on resources, when they could have up to much bigger armies that they had. This has made it considerably harder to eliminate AI players.
- Fixed an issue where artifacts could cause negative stat values.
- Fixed a large amount of minor technical and visual issues, generally cleaning up and polishing the game.
