Demo Update 0.4.0

Hey there,

The main thing this patch adds is the tile sub type system. Subtypes have been cooking in my head for a while and I am excited to get a working version into Hexagod.

The main goal with this system is to make tile placement more interesting. You will now be rewarded for planning out tile placements which result in sub types since the bonus effects are designed to be a bit OP. The other goal is to give you a sense of discovery and AHA moments when you find a new subtype or take advantage of a bonus effect.

My next goal will be to work on a major rework of villagers and evil hexes.

More to come!

Demo 0.4.0 Patch Notes:

Added Tile Subtypes:

  • Tile subtypes are enhanced versions of base tiles that provide powerful bonus effects while retaining the base type's original properties.
  • A tile automatically transforms into a subtype once its corresponding recipe is completed.
  • To complete a recipe, you need a central tile surrounded by 6 adjacent tiles.
  • Most recipes require a combination of 2 tile types: the central tile must be one of these types, and the surrounding 6 tiles must consist of exactly 3 of each type.
  • There are 15 recipes which covers all pairing of the 6 placeable tile base types
  • Alternatively, some recipes require the central tile to be surrounded entirely by matching tile types.
  • There are 6 recipes like this (one for each placeable base type)

Secrets Screen

  • Added a new button in the bottom right to show the discovered secrets.
  • This popup will be expanded to show more info about things you have found like cards, evil hexes, etc..
  • Discovering a subtype will unlock the recipe in this screen so you can reference is later

Other Changes

  • Updated the tile tooltip to improve readability and gave it a smoother animation for when it shows/hides
  • Added some UI to show the controls. This is shown at during the “End of Day” phase and when you open the options menu. I also added these to the HELP popup
  • Added in a bunch of new cards
  • Rebalanced a lot of the cards
  • Changed which cards are in which pack
  • Adjusted some the text in the quests
  • UI elements will now slowly fade in as the info they show becomes relevant
  • Updated various artwork for icons to have more consistent visual
  • Added new icons in various places
  • Added new sound effects and adjusted volume levels for others
  • Added in a small save file which will save your audio settings
  • Added in a player progression save file which will save info about which Sub Type Recipes you have discovered
  • Added text to show the current demo build
  • Updated the font for parts of the UI to use version of the font which looks better at smaller font sizes (Help text, quest text, etc..)
  • Bug fixes (probably a lot that I can’t recall at this point)
