What is Hexagroove: Tactical DJ?

Hexagroove is a game unlike any other. It blends the best parts of action, rhythm, and strategy titles to provide a truly creative DJ experience. In the game you have complete control over which musical loops you'll combine to best impress the crowd. Six rules of music making and a bag full of unlockable DJ tricks guide you on your journey to performance mastery.

Who made the game?

Ichigoichie is a two-person Swedish/Japanese studio with deep music-making roots. I started my career at iNiS in Tokyo and was the lead programmer on a number of music classics including Ouendan, Elite Beat Agents, Gitaroo-Man Lives!, and the karaoke smash Lips for Xbox 360.

In Hexagroove, I assembled a cadre of performing artists from around the world to put together the musical blocks you'll combine in our realtime strategy title. Genres and producers in the full version include: Legowelt (Electro), Runners Club 95 (Synthwave), Mr. YT / Yuji Takenouchi (Techno, Minimal), CYLON (Psytrance), No. 9 Orchestra (Chill Out), Big Skapinsky (Liquid DnB), TWIDDL (Deep House), SEXY-SYNTHESIZER (Chiprock), DÉ DÉ MOUSE (Nu Garage), lallow (IDM), and Kristoffer Wallman (House, Trance, Drum and Bass, Electro House).

Why did we make it?

Before designing Hexagroove I thought back to how difficult it was for me to get started as a musician. Using audio software had so many instruments, presets, buttons… and you never got any feedback on how you were doing in making the music.

I love going to raves…I love listening to club music…it's a such big part of my life that affected me growing up. What I wanted to do in this title was build something on that wide expanse between addictive games like Guitar Hero and the endless, blank canvas of professional audio software. And I wanted to do it in a way that recreated the excitement of being at a party– feeling the energy in the air as the DJ combined the music such artful ways. I think Hexagroove brings all this together because while all the music in the game is controlled entirely by you, it will never sound bad and you don't have to feel the frustration of things lining up off the beat or being out of musical key.

What more does the full version contain?

Beyond the two-level free demo, the full version contains everything you'll need to start on the road of dance music mastery including an additional:
* 5 club venues of increasing scale
* 11 genres (with an additional free expansion planned for December)
* 4 more instruments
* 9 skateboarding-style DJ tricks for high score mastery
* 2-4 player local co-op Entourage mode for two skill levels of players
* 1-4 player Freestyle mode where you can play around making music endlessly or practice rhythm charts and beats
* stats, records, and 30 achievements
