EA Hotfix 1.0

Hello Captains, new and old!

Firstly just wanted to say a massive, massive thank you for your kind words, support and understanding on Early Access Launch! We've said this a bunch before, but launching a game is not easy, especially not as an indie – and the community has been so warm and understanding. Thank you so much, again, from the bottom of our hearts.

In the first 48 hours of launch, we've received over 500 reports to our In-Game Bug Reporter, 150+ reports to our Community Discord and 300+ in the Steam Forums. These bits of information are so integral not only to squelch bugs, but to validate our suspicions and ideas for the future. The great part is that most of these pieces of feedback, suggestions and bugs are right up in the forefront of our minds, and we're actively working hard on solutions.

Early Access is never easy! But we are confident that this hotfix that should ease some really core problems in gameplay.

The biggest implementation (other than the save game fixes) is that we’ve implemented some new Officer Orders for resource processing and power generation. This should hopefully help alleviate some of those priority issues folks were having. We’re going to keep adding to these features as the game progresses in Early Access.

Save Games

  • Some community members would experience a frustrating bug where Save Games could break after sending out an Away Mission. This should be reconciled with this hotfix.
  • We’ve solved a whole host of bugs that were corrupting save files. There were a few issues causing it, so this is a bit of a catch-all, but we are Hopeful that we have squashed them all.
  • The bug that occurred when saves would be saved to a single save slot – thus resulting in every save reloading the same game – should be resolved now.
  • You should now be able to select any save slot from the Pause Menu! Huzzah!
  • The team have made improvements to visualizations of Save Games: new games should now appear at the top, older games at the bottom, Pause Menu strings have been resolved, excessive amounts of save files have been reduced, etc.
  • Sometimes players would exit the Main Menu from the End Game Screen, resulting in the game inadvertently saving and causing a Failed Load state. This should also be resolved!
  • We saw a few game crashes in the asteroid belt – this should not occur anymore.

Away Missions

  • The bug that prevented players from recalling a Shuttle when multiple Away Missions were launched should be resolved now.
  • When the Hangar lost power, Shuttles could become stuck in departing for their Mission. This should not occur anymore!
  • Shuttles have become stuck because Crew couldn’t/wouldn’t depart for their Mission. We still have more investigating to do, but you should be able to Recall a Mission and see the crew become unstuck.

Misc. Gameplay

  • We’ve improved the game balancing slightly so that the starting resources are more generous - we know this is not a total fix but while we work on a longer term solution this will hopefully alleviate some of the resource issues.
  • We’ve changed up the deconstruction costs of build mode - it will no longer incur a fee to move things.
  • We’ve fixed an issue where some online services starting up were causing issues with authentication, both for Feedback and also for the Twitch Integration. If you were having issues with either, they should be fixed now.
  • We’ve fixed the issue where the crew were deciding to start a Moshpit instead of getting to work.
  • The frustrating bug where the Feedback Form would not display to some users should be all fixed! You should see it on the right hand side of your screen.
  • There were reports of keyboard + mouse controls becoming unresponsive at some points in gameplay, making it impossible to jump forward in a run. This shouldn’t occur anymore!
  • We have fixed an issue where tooltips were getting stuck when hovered over.
  • Sometimes, Crew tooltips/statuses lingered too long, even after the Status was alleviated. This shouldn’t occur anymore!
  • We’ve fixed a couple of pathfinding issues with the crew - we don’t feel like it has completely solved pathfinding, but it should be more rare now. We’ll continue working away on this one.
  • At times, the Zutopan Combat didn’t reload properly, and the Zutopans didn’t get their weapons back. While this is ideal for your Crew, it’s definitely not the intended experience – and should be resolved now.
  • For those that were experiencing issue with infinite load screens, you should no longer have issues with that.
  • The team have made visual improvements to Game UI and Localisation - again this is a step towards a bigger fix in the longer term.

Some Important Notes


With this Patch, some testers using Custom Runs in canonical layouts have seen an extreme amount of fire. We’re working on a solution to this, but in the meantime, we suggest you stay clear of that layout unless you wish for extra-crispy crew.

Another note to keep in mind - if you set an Order Priority and then save and reload, that priority currently won’t load back in. We’re aware and actively working on a fix.

You can also expect a Patch in the next week intended to address the larger, less-critical bugs in gameplay. We'll have more information very soon, but not just yet – our priorities are actively shifting based on what we hear from players, and as a small team, we're making important decisions on functional gameplay, team bandwidth and critical issues.

The first big Content Update will come within the next 6-8 weeks and will be called A Dangerous Galaxy….

We've also had a lot of questions about our intentions and ideas for the future! We will have some news about that next week too, along with a streamed Q + A to chat with you all about the vision we have for the game.
