The King announces new Patch Notes and a short story!

The emerald mines were never silent. The groan of stone, the coughs of Nanas, and the soft purr of gloworms filled the air alongside the dust. Deep beneath the surface, lit only by the green glow of the creepy, albeit tasty, worms, the miner returned to the heart of the excavation. The entrance was sealed until their quota was met, and the guards refused all reason, all requests for medicine. The miners and their families were prisoners, entombed.

He paused by a collapsed tunnel, where a cluster of children huddled in the shadows, too weak to cry. Among them sat the blind orphan, his milky eyes wide as he listened to the tight, cloistered world he could no longer see. He flinched as a cart clattered by, and the miner knelt before him.

“I made you something,” he said softly, producing a tiny carved griffon from his satchel. Its wings were outstretched, a small emerald shard set in its belly, tail curled. It was a toy worn smooth by his calloused hands. He offered it carefully to the small Nana.

The boy explored it with his fingers. “It flies?” he asked with wonder.
“Only in dreams,” the miner said with a rare smile. “Do you remember the words?”

“I do!” the child replied.

Together they whispered a folk prayer. The emerald light they managed to invoke for healing was warm, needed, but not enough.

The miner stood, heart heavy. Around him, his fellow Nanas coughed and labored under the emerald light. The fake emerald light of gloworms.

And in that moment, he knew: if they were to see true light, they would need to harness all they had. If the mines were to be freed, it would be by the calloused hands of miners and the faith in the Emerald Light.

Gripping his makeshift scepter, he turned to his fellow Nanas. Their only way forward was rebellion.

Skins

Cleric: Emerald Miner

–The protagonist of our short story!
–The Cleric was a leader in the miner rebellion.

Cupid: Canary Cupid

–The child from the story. This skin doesn't depict Cupid’s origins, because that would be way too sad!
–This skin is a play on “the canary in the coal mine.”

Paladin: Crystal Avenger

–The Paladin belonged to the Order that bought emeralds from the mines. They were called in to squash the rebellion, but our Paladin turned against them after discovering the injustice beneath the surface.
–This skin depicts a Paladin powered by gems (not the healing ones from the Emerald Mine!).

Biomancer: Crystal Grafted

–This skin shows Biomancer’s biology fused with geological crystals.
–He was hired to create the gloworms for the mines, unaware of what was really going on… or that the worms would end up tasting so good! This eventually impacted Trumwood Forest, as Nanas introduced them as an invasive species.

Huntress: Specter Huntress

–This skin depicts an expert gloworm huntress.
–Many Nanas, including the Huntress, were hired to eliminate the gloworms. But when they failed, they began living off of them instead. Eventually, they reached a balance with the ecosystem, but it wasn’t meant to last…

Druid: Spore Circle Druid

–…because a faction of druids led by Druid Elthood believed that no true balance could exist as long as the unnatural presence of gloworms lingered in the forest. Even as the ecosystem began to recover, he cast a spell that covered all of Trumwood in mushrooms, hoping to purge as many gloworms as possible.
–This skin imagines a version of our Druid who joined Elthood’s cause.
