V2.1.0 - Super Kick Mode, UI Upgrade and More!

Hey everyone, been a while but I’m back with a reasonably chunky update. I’ll jump right into the details but first if you have a chance we have put together a survey to get a sense of what kind of updates you all might like in the future. Check it out here: https://forms.gle/idmcLTwUzDgmHLwS7

Now for the update details!

Super Kick Mode

We've added a new mode called Super Kick that you will unlock at the same time as the Spider-Person mode (it will be automatically given to you if you have already got the Spider-Person mode). What it does is give you infinite wall kicks while you are in the air and updates the floor kick to work similar to the wall kick. However there is a cost to this new power, when walking you will move at a very slow pace so make sure to stay in the air and slide whenever you land on the ground. As with Spider-Person mode you will need to play through all the levels in order to unlock them and each level has a new leaderboard for the new mode.

UI Update

The main update you will notice here is that the ‘Play’ menu no longer exists (and the multi save system has been dropped in favour of this system) and it is replaced by a new and greatly improved level select screen. This should make the process of playing through the game a lot more enjoyable and it will make it a lot easier to quickly get to specific levels you want to play. It also features a new level lock system to help encourage some more people to get involved in the leaderboards and hopefully get the most out of the game (it’s at its best when you're trying to improve your times and challenging yourself). My goal for this is to keep the requirements fairly low and just generally have a light touch with the locks so if they are really annoying or hard to beat please let me know!

Full list of UI changes:

  • Added an option to select the font size.
  • Improved the look and feel of the menus & UI across the whole game.
  • Added some additional options to the first time load option menu.
  • Changed the in-game name of the shoeboxes to shoeboxes instead of collectables.
  • Tutorial Improvements
  • For long term players this won’t make a huge difference to your experience of the game but for new players the initial experience of the game will be greatly improved. There is a new tutorial ‘line’ which helps to give context to the tutorial prompts and in many cases has meant that I have been able to reduce the word count on them. There is a new smaller tutorial prompt for these reduced tutorials too.
  • I have also reordered a few of the early levels to help the learning flow. Level 3 is now level 6 and level 5 is now level 7.

Movement Changes

There are a few small movement / control changes.

  • Added quick turns to the game, by default they are on Q & E, these are designed to help with skills like the backwards wall kick for players who want them.
  • Adjusted the default keys for the front and back flips for m&k to Z & F to make room for the quick turns.
  • Improved visual effects for the slide hop and made a custom jump sound for it.
  • Slightly adjusted the jump sound to make it a little clearer and nicer sounding.
  • Adjust the roll in two ways: speed up the roll animation a tiny bit (and alt animation too), this doesn’t affect the functionality but does make it feel a lot better and allow you to see again faster after the roll. Secondly I adjusted the timing of the roll button press requirements to allow the roll to be activated later. Now if you press the button up 0.1s after you land it will still activate, changed from the moment you land.

Misc Changes & Bug fixes

Made the wizards more accurate at longer ranges so they feel more consistent to play against.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed the bug where the 100% Steam achievement would not unlock.
  • Fixed the bug where the virtual completionist would not unlock.
  • Fixed a bug where bugged near 0 times would sometimes be added to the leaderboards when you restarted a level at a very specific time.
  • Fixed an issue that let you kick while the stage titles were playing.
  • Fixed the time display bug on the level end screen.
  • Fixed an issue where the level end screen did not scale to fill the screen when the leaderboards weren't present.
  • Added collisions to some boxes missing them in BTH-07.
  • Fixed an issue where the grapple would attach to two points if you tried to grapple again quickly after having let go at a distance far from the previous attach point.
  • Fixed an issue with the downwards wall jump that meant you would sometimes reattach to the corner of the wall.
  • Back to Hell 06 was accidentally removed in the last build so added it back into the game. (Sorta counts newish content if you really think about it lol)

Hope you enjoy the update and please do check out our survey if you can!!
