So, last Friday I was showing two kids how you make a game and my buddy Jocelin suggests they play test McDROID. So here they are, one is 11 the other one 13, gamepad in hand, blasting through the first levels of the game and (thankfully) having a blast. But each time there is a dialogue bubble onscreem, they skip it.
Ugh, some important game info is in there so clearly text in an action game isn't not working.
So on Monday I bring my H4N microphone to work, borrow a tripod and lock myself up in a recording room at 225 Bush and record the entire dialogue of McDROID.
Then add some game logic to synch it with the dialogue bubbles and cut the wav files in.
And it's AWESOME!
My acting was not even good, and the acoustic of that recording room, well imagine a broom closet with a few acoustic foam pasted on the wall, overhead, an AC pipe blasting white noise…
So yes this needs to be redone with real voice actors and a decent recording room.
That'll take some time.
