RUSE Open Beta New Patch Note

Hi everyone,

As promised, a new patch is now available for the RUSE Open Beta.

This patch addresses many crashes that you found while playing the beta, improves the networking code, fixes building placement inconsistencies and solves replay desync . I cannot emphasize enough how useful your feedback is. Keep it coming!

Does it solve all the connectivity issues? Sadly not yet. This is a very complex problem inherent to a peer to peer network simulation that our RTS uses. Using peer to peer, it is difficult to determine exactly who is responsible for the lag. Actually, we tried some fixes and kick features but our QA teams reported unwanted kicks. We do not want to make the situation worse than it is now.

What is certain:
• The team is working hard on it
• It will be fixed for the game release, and I hope to have at least more improvements for the beta
• We already implemented an interface to show ping (as battery bars) in the lobby, meaning that you can kick high ping players before the game starts. At least now you know what is going on.

Also, some sessions are being frozen by NAT issues. We are also working on this, and we will now autokick players who do not send packets at all after a match launches.

Finally, there are worries about balancing and overpowered units. We are monitoring games, the feelings are mixed, so we need a bit more time to decide the changes in balance.

Please find below the detailed release notes for this patch :
• Friend matchmaking is now more robust
• Fixed a crash when placing a supply depot
• Fixed several unit AI crashes
• Fixed path finding crashes
• Added "non responsive" player autokick
• Added display of ping in the lobby, in the form of battery bars
• Fixed a menu crash
• Properly displays the Quit interface after a surrender
• Fixed several replay desyncs
• Warning : Old replay files are no longer compatible with this new version
• Fixed some chat issues
• Fixed several graphical crashes
• Fixed a crash in multiplayer when hosting and leaving right away
• Warning : There are known issues with launching R.U.S.E. using the new Steam beta client

Thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting RUSE.
