Developer Update: Pest Control and Version 0.514 Patch Notes

This update includes many adjustments to quests, and should ease the requirements of early-game quests as well as properly gate later-game quests until you can obtain the required items.

Developer Update - Pest Control



It’s been a whirlwind here at the office the last few weeks. Early Access has been live for 14 business days, and we’ve released just as many patches. Whew!

While we’re swatting down bugs as fast as possible, we wanted to give you an update on what’s going on at the office with regards to some of our longer-term targets. (Given that we’re patching daily so far, “longer term” in this case means hopefully within the next few weeks.)


[*]Quests and balancing are still top of mind for us.

We’ve finished a first pass at re-jigging some of the requirements to get a noticeboard quest. A lot of early-game noticeboard quests will have their turn-in requirements reduced and should be easier to complete. Many later-game quests have been pushed further out, so you shouldn’t get those quests until you have the ability to make or get the required items.
Following this, we are planning to adjust reward values to better reflect item costs, and make the quests available more often. This does mean that favor values will be adjusted down, but given the increased availability of quests, this should mean it won’t hurt as much to turn down a quest you don’t want to do, and overall make it easier to earn favor.

[*]We’ve heard your storage woes, and will work on making more storage available more quickly.

Ah, the bane of every RPG – the inventory management game. While we do have options for expanding storage in a variety of ways, literally all of them are too harshly gated. We’ll be adjusting those down in the near future to make it easier to store your stuff. This is slated for review early next week, and will take some time to implement.

[*]Controls and Accessibility passes to make it easier for everyone to play.

We really appreciate your feedback on this one. Camera controls, fishing, and being able to hold instead of tapping buttons for harvesting trees etc. are top of our list in this category. Adjustments to these items will be ongoing, as it affects a variety of interfaces, and will therefore take some time. But it is a priority for us that everyone can play in a way that is comfortable for them.

Gameplay Updates


  • Made many early quests easier
  • Gated many later-game quests until prerequisite items can be obtained

Gameplay Fixes


  • Adjusted targeting priority for harvesting when near other players
  • Alimela's personal story quest no longer blocks your ability build homestead buildings/upgrades if you meet the requirements
  • Fixed looping dialogue issues with Jinni and Alimela's personal story quests

Visual and Text Updates


  • Fixed a visual issue with cat ears
  • Change in wardrobe to not show the select button for PC, and the Back button will always be the Done button
  • Action prompts in the menu now have an animation when closing instead of just moving down/up
  • Adjusted the NUX tutorial in the wardrobe
  • Cleaner transition into and out of the wardrobe
  • Pine and Oak resource tree lighting updates
  • Adjusted light probe position of a few non-choppable trees in the Wilds
  • Proper Highlight color now used in descriptions with a darker background
  • Workbench Icon now used when looking at the carpentry profession
