The Break-In 1.0 Launch Update
After nearly two years of Early Access, the Break-In is finally launching for real. It's been a long road, and I want to thank everyone who has played the game during the Early Access period, especially those of you who have been making cool suggestions and reporting bugs in the discord. You guys made this game possible! I have prepared a big update to celebrate the launch, and I hope you'll enjoy all of the new content. Here's a summary of what's been added.
Playground Level
Everyone likes a playground, so I made one for you. Please enjoy the monkey bars and slide, and don't investigate the map too much. There are no secrets hiding within, and definitely no cool items from old playtests to be found. (If you hear any rustling, large mechanical doors opening, or explosions coming from undergound, please ignore.)
Perks and Classes
I have also added the long-awaited perks and classes system. Head over to the "class" room in the lobby to select your class, and unlock perks by doing missions. The perks are very powerful, and synergise well together, so gather a mixed team and get stealing! The classes are as follows:
Infiltrator - Sneaky and fast.
The Infiltrator is who you send in first. They'll open up the level for the rest of the team, jumping up to the roof, climbing the side of buildings like spiderman, and remaining undetected the whole time.
Strongman - Strong and a Fighter.
The Strongman can carry heavy items with ease, even throwing them across the map. They should be sent to steal the heavy stuff. The cars, the fridge, maybe the people. The Strongman can also learn secret martial arts techniques that will allow them to KO even guards and police with their fists.
Mastermind - Intelligent and prepared.
The Mastermind has access to special info about the mission, like where the best loot is and how many residents and guards are present. They can also learn to hack, disabling lights, cameras, and lasers, and even opening the vault with just their laptop.
Escaping the Police Van
Previously, getting Busted was a life sentence. The police van was frustratingly inescapable, and many burglar friends were sadly left behind sitting in it. Now, thanks to advances
in burglar technology, it's possible to lockpick your friends out of the van, freeing them once again.
New Items
For the launch update, I decided to re-think the items I wanted to add to the game. Initially, I planned to add things like drones and selfie sticks, but I realised that these are kind of gimmicky and not very useful in an actual mission. Instead, I have added some item "upgrades" to your existing favourites.
The swaggier bag is an upgraded swag bag, much bigger and able to fit larger items, but it can't be put on a toolbelt. The battering ram is an upgraded hammer, and has much higher breaking power but is larger and harder to sneak in. I have also upgraded the rope launcher to add the zipline feature from way back in the first demo of the game, because it's cool. The rope launcher has also been re-coded to make it work better. I added the shrink ray too, but I forgot where I left it.
Bug Fixes
There have been a number of bug fixes, including preventing wall-stuckness in VR, making vents less broken in non VR, server stability, and ragdoll containment. I continue to monitor the discord channel for bug reports, so if you see issues, please post about them there!
