Hi everyone! If you're
in the game's Discord server you might know that I've recently been working on making controls clearer! The main feedback I've received from players of the demo is that the button prompts being standardized regardless of your input device is very confusing, and I agree. That solution was always meant to be temporary, but I finally got to implementing something more reliable! The screenshot below shows the new HUD that is in the game!
As you can see on the top left, the HUD includes button prompts for both dashing and your currently selected item. Something I noticed when watching people play the demo is that they knew how to select an item with the item wheel, but they didn't know how to use it or expected the item to be used immediately upon selection. This new addition should make it clearer! Let me know what you guys think of the change!
Speaking of button prompts, at the beginning of the demo you can now select which input type you would like to use.
Once you select it, all prompts in the game will match your choice! Below you can see a before/after screenshot comparing how the prompts were before and how they are now.
You can
play the demo right now on Steam so if these new quality of life updates interest you, make sure to give it a try!
Those of you who have seen one of my previous updates know that I am working on a little spinoff of The Outbound Ghost, and below's a little screenshot showing how it's progressed since then.
If you're not aware, the artstyle is based off of
the original prototype version of The Outbound Ghost before it went in a more Paper Mario-like direction! What genre do you think this game pertains to? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments! If you want to learn more about it,
this Fridays YouTube devlog will cover most of your answers and more! Make sure to catch it! The spinoff will also be free for all Kickstarter backers who pledged for any tier containing a copy of the game!
This cool pixel style won't just be limited to this spinoff though, as I'll also announce in this
Fridays devlog a special option in the main game regarding this style that only
Kickstarter backers will have!
Lastly, I'd like to thank you all again! We're 223% funded, which is absolutely insane! I can't wait to continue working on this awesome game, and I hope that you will all like it when it comes out next year!
