Major Update v0.249 Improv Mode, Faster Loading, Better First Run

  • [p]Fixed some chords including unexpected notes, causing dissonant sound[/p]
  • [p]Performance improvements for libraries with hundreds or thousands of MIDI files[/p]
  • [p]Fixed the folder background skewing too far when folders contained huge song counts[/p]
  • [p]Tightened preview loading to reduce the risk of the wrong song preview playing[/p]
Changes
  • [p]Horizontal Mode is now the default. You can still switch back to sheet music mode in Options[/p]
  • [p]Completely reworked first run flow[/p]
    • [p]No more forced calibration at startup[/p]
    • [p]Choose your instrument and jump straight into the tutorial[/p]
    • [p]Manual calibration is still available in Options[/p]
    • [p]Song selection tutorial has been rebuilt and is much more guided (no longer a single screen)[/p]
    • [p]Removed key override from the UI for now[/p]
      • [p]It was mostly a dev feature and wasn’t being used[/p]
      • [p]It may return later after a redesign[/p]
      New features
      • [p]Program Change support for MIDI imports
        • MIDIs that change instruments mid song (program change) will now be respected. Example: clarinet at the start switching to tubular bells later will now switch correctly for both the background and active instrument. You’ll see a small swap icon in the staff when an instrument change occurs.[/p]
      Major new feature: Improv Mode
      [p][/p][p]Some songs have long stretches with little or no charted input, which can feel a bit quiet. Improv Mode adds something fun to do during those sections.[/p]
      • [p]Available while playing on all difficulty modes[/p]
      • [p]During low activity stretches, the full instrument becomes available[/p]
      • [p]You can play freely, including L/R for a full two octaves[/p]
      • [p]There’s no penalty for staying silent, it’s purely optional and just for fun[/p]
      [p]In a later patch, I’ll be adding the ability to save your improv sections so you can revisit your own riffs.[/p]

This was necessary due to some underlying changes and will help keep things stable going forward.[/p]
