[p]Today’s update introduces one of the biggest mechanical changes so far:
ornament notes, a system that makes extremely fast passages playable while preserving the intended musical feel. There’s also a new quality-of-life feature and some performance enhancements.[/p]
New Feature: Skip score roll-up
[p]You can now skip the score roll-up at the end of a song.
Just
press the confirm button while the score is counting up to jump straight to the results.[/p]
Performance improvements
[p]General performance enhancements to improve frame consistency and reduce stutter, especially in dense or complex songs.[/p]
Major Change: Ornament Notes
[p]Some MIDI files include extremely fast runs, trills, grace clusters, or lead-ups that were previously impossible for human hands to play. This update introduces a new system to allow those passages to remain musical
and playable.[/p]
How ornament notes work:
- [p]Fast note runs are collapsed into “ornament holds.”
These look similar to normal holds but are visually distinct (currently slightly brighter).[/p]- [p]Very fast grace notes are collapsed into a single button press if the combined total equals a sixteenth note.[/p]
- [p]Otherwise, they convert into ornament holds as described above.[/p]
- [p]The underlying notes still play musically.
As long as you hold or press the ornament note, the audio sequence plays back as intended.
Releasing early will cut off the underlying phrase, just like ending a normal hold early.[/p]
Chords are also affected
[p]Fast chord clusters can also be ornamented, making dense chord runs playable but still harmonically correct.[/p]
Why this matters
[p]These changes dramatically expand what the game can reasonably chart from MIDI files.
Previously impossible sections become playable – not necessarily easy, but humanly possible.[/p][p][/p][p]Before, notice the (basically impossible) 32nd note run leading into a normal sustain note[/p][p][/p][p]After, the run is collapsed into a single hold with the following sustain remaining unchanged[/p][p][/p]
Testing request
[p]This is a
very large underlying change, and while everything looks stable so far, it may have unintended effects on certain songs, especially more complex MIDI imports.[/p][p]If you have access to the full version or a large MIDI library, I humbly ask that you try as many songs as you can and report anything that looks off.[/p][p]Your testing and feedback will help refine this system before Early Access launch.[/p]
