Dev Log #4 (Build 0.0.5.6) The Big One
The last couple of months have been really exciting from the development standpoint. About 3 months ago, the game was effectively a first-person walking simulator. You could walk around, open doors, maybe talk to one or two people and that was about it. Now, the whole thing is actually starting to feel like a video game.
New developments:
Almost all of the functionality that needs to be in the game is now in the game, rough and unpolished though it may be.
A lot of content has been added since the last Dev Log. Unfortunately, still not enough for initial release of Early Access.
Content and Story are probably at 6-8% complete. I'm aiming for 15-20% for initial Early Access
Environmental design (of initially available areas) is now at 90-95% completion, minus polish which will continue after initial release.
The nightclub now has a security guard who patrols the club and hallways. He will chase and ban the player from the club when the player is caught going something naughty. Being banned ends the game.
Background NPCs are now being populated into the nightclub.
Most of the NPCs are static and will not move except for their idle animation. Eventually, many will be given some basic AI where they will walk around and do various things.
This new functionality is likely to be added after initial release.
The player can now purchase drinks from the bar. This function is still quite rough and needs more polish, expansion, and development.
A massive optimization has been performed, the game now runs much more smoothly. Final optimization still ongoing.
An enhanced interaction menu has been created. Most basic interactions with people and objects are initiated by pressing E or left-clicking. Right clicking on an object will now allow you to interact with objects in other ways. For example, if you are at a door and right click on it, the standard "Open" option will be available in this list. If you have the key for the door, an unlock option will become available as well in this new menu.
All said, things are moving along fairly smoothly and consistently.
The current roadmap is as follows:
producing enough content for initial Early Access release.
content is: story, dialogue, events, and animations
implementing minimal functionality for all interactable objects
polishing and refining existing assets and functionality to prepare the game for release
adding and refining AI for the main NPC characters.
Thanks for following the development this far and see you in the next Dev Log.
