Development Update #10
Hello, dearest soldiers of Ashird! This is Miore-san, the project's director. Today, I'll be both informing you of our progress over the past month and summarizing a few changes to the game's staff.
Firstly, we've updated the battle system and the game's UI.
Deployment and Command Points
Each battle starts when the player deploys their forces (party members + generic soldiers). As you can see from the screenshot below, the player will use Command Points (CP) to do this—and stronger characters will cost more of them.
(A beta image, which may not reflect the final release. As a note, the two generic characters are named after backers!)
Players will be able to use more CP by increasing their military rank. As such, you'll have many more options when you're a General compared to a Cadet!
Level Ups and Development Points
(A beta image. Stats are not accurate to the final release.)
When we introduced the level up system in a previous update, we received many messages asking us to reconsider how it works. Upon reviewing everyone's suggestions, we came up with the idea for characters to receive three Development Points (DP) per level. We think that this change will give players more freedom in their builds.
Now, many of you are probably asking, "Does this mean I can give every character the same build?" Not at all! Everyone will get different benefits based on their skill tree. Let's take Chizuru, for example: She gets the most benefit when a player invests in AGI, and other values are at the player's discretion.
Victory Screen and Bonus EXP
Next, we would like to present the victory summary screen. After each battle, all units that participated will receive a small bit of bonus EXP—and the player may receive some items as well.
In the image above, you may notice that characters have a level cap of 40. What does this mean? Well, beyond the obvious explanation, it relates to characters' races: humans (like Yukiko and Chizuru) cap at level 40; demi-humans (like Tara, Snow, and Astar) cap at level 50; and finally, others (including demons, spirits, and angels) have varying caps such as 60, 75, and 99.
There have been some changes to our team.
As implied before, there has been some turnover in our team. Toma-san had difficulty working on a project of this size due to the pressures involved, and decided to end his contract in January to focus on his well-being. At this point, we would like to thank him for all the hard work he put into War of Ashird—not to mention the positive attitudes he brought to our team, the hardships he's endured alongside us, and his general support. Thank you, Toma-san! We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavours.
Some of you may be wondering why we're only talking about this now. The truth is a rather simple one: When there is an issue, we feel it's more professional to present solutions instead of problems. We understand that our backers are too busy with their lives—and whatever problems they may be facing—so we don't want to exacerbate things by worrying them.
So, what are we doing in response to this? Well, thanks to all of your immense support, we managed to reach all of our goals. Although we were already thinking of expanding our team because of that, Toma-san's departure has led us to hire four new artists (as this allows us to finish the work before WoA's release). Additionally, backers who chose the Toma-san art reward during our campaign will receive a message in their Kickstarter inboxes—which will contain possible compromises. We're very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, and are grateful for your understanding.
Next, we'd like to introduce the first of our new team members: Hi-na-san (@hi_na117117)! She has been working with us in secret for a few months now. Here are her welcoming words to all of you—as well as some of her latest work!
————————————–
It's a pleasure to meet you, everyone. My name is Hi-na, and I'm going to be part of War of Ashird's art team from now on. I promise to do my best, so that everyone can see how eye-catching and well-put-together the game's characters are! Thank you for your support, and I hope you enjoy my contributions to the project.
————————————–
King Sei Anegakouji
The only child of Kazutora Anegakouji, who inherited the Ceredian throne. On the surface, there's nothing strange about this—save for Sei being a woman and tradition dictating that only male heirs can inherit the kingdom. In response, Kazutora ordered Sei's gender hidden and raised her as a man. How will this pan out for her? You'll just have to see in-game!
In addition to Sei, Hi-na-san has already created several unrevealed, incredibly important characters that our team has been raving about. We're also planning to show some event CGs in the future, so stay tuned!
Per tradition, we'd also like to present another of the game's 3D models!
Eiko Oozora
A mysterious girl, accused of spying by the Prisean Empire. She claims to be from another world—and is fairly open about that fact. "This may not be my fight, but how can I turn away and act like I don't see what's happening here? I will do whatever it takes to get back home to Earth!"
As always, we're looking forward to your opinions and feedback!
Thank you all for your support, as always!
